First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Boutique Hotel Vinařství Škrobák, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away in the small village of Příhon. The building itself is part of a working winery, which immediately sets it apart from your typical hotel experience. You know what struck me most? The way the modern hotel design seamlessly blends with the traditional Czech wine-making architecture — it’s like they found the perfect balance between old-world charm and contemporary comfort.
The Wine Country Setting
Being located in Čejkovice puts you right in the heart of South Moravian wine country, and I mean right in it. The hotel sits among rolling vineyards, and from most windows you can see rows of grapevines stretching toward the horizon. It’s about a 20-minute drive to Mikulov, which is handy if you want to explore the region’s wine cellars and historic sites. The village of Příhon itself is tiny — we’re talking maybe 200 people — but that’s actually part of the appeal. You’re completely immersed in rural Czech life, yet the hotel provides all the modern amenities you’d want.
The Room Experience
My room was spacious and thoughtfully designed, with clean lines and warm wood accents that complement the wine theme without going overboard. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms feature modern fixtures with excellent water pressure. What I really appreciated were the little touches — local wine as a welcome gift, and windows that actually open wide to let in the fresh countryside air. The soundproofing is excellent too, which matters when you want to sleep in after a day of wine tasting.
Dining and Wine Experience
The on-site restaurant focuses on regional cuisine paired with wines from their own vineyard, and honestly, this is where the hotel really shines. The chef clearly knows how to work with local ingredients — I had some of the best duck I’ve ever tasted, paired with a Grüner Veltliner that was produced literally steps away from where I was sitting. Breakfast is solid too, with local cheeses, fresh bread, and house-made preserves. You can also arrange wine tastings in their cellar, which feels authentic rather than touristy.
Why Guests Love It
The 9.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s the kind of place that delivers on its promise — you come for a wine country experience, and that’s exactly what you get, without any pretense or artificial touches. The staff genuinely knows about wine and the region, so their recommendations actually matter. Plus, there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that’s part of a working business rather than just a hotel trying to create an artificial theme. The parking is free and plentiful, which is a nice bonus when you’re exploring the countryside by car.
